At Midwest Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, our surgeons, Dr. Hueler and Dr. Sandler offer TMJ disorder treatment for our patients in Savage, Shakopee, and Eden Prairie, Minnesota experiencing jaw pain. If you have pain in the muscles and tissues connecting your lower jaw to your skull, you may have temporomandibular joint disorder or TMJ disorder.

You see, on either side of your head, you have two temporomandibular joints. Under normal conditions, these joints function painlessly when everything is in balance. However, if the balance is offset from abnormal stresses to the neck, jaw, cartilage nerves, or teeth, then you can experience chronic TMJ pain.

TMJ pain has many causes. If you habitually grind or clench your teeth, pop your jaw too much, or chew gum excessively, the result may be jaw pain. In addition, stress, lack of exercise, poor posture, poor diet, or a dysfunctional bite are all contributors to possible TMJ.

So how do  you know you have TMJ? You might have difficulty and discomfort when chewing or when biting your food. Other signs may include popping, grating, or clicking when your open and close your mouth, a change in how your teeth fit together, or a dull ache in the face.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, our surgeons are here to help. Please call Midwest Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Savage, Shakopee, and Eden Prairie, Minnesota, today at our location nearest you to learn about your options for treating TMJ pain.
